The Warrior's Code IS OUT!

The Warrior's Code
IS LIVE!

"Live by the Code. Die by the Code. In the magical world of the Order, Warriors fight for justice, freedom, and peace. Becoming a Warrior is an honor given to few, and twelve-year-olds Zackery Solts and Kate Black will do anything to have a place among the elite. Zack and Kate must compete against eighteen others and pass three deadly tests of courage and skill. Above all, they must be strong because while the dangers of the tests are unknown, one thing is clear: not everyone will survive."

The Warrior’s Code (Book 1.2) is an e-format prequel short story in the Legend of the Dreamer series that can be read before or after Light of the Moon (Book 1).

Secret: The last page of The Warrior's Code gives a HUGE hint at a love interest for Zack appearing in Shadow of the Sun (the sequel to Light of the Moon). I won't say who or why, but look for hint. It's there, (hint: "star blinked above") I promise. And it's a BIG kind of love. Who do you think it is?

The Warrior's Code Playlist (OUT TOMORROW)

The Warrior's Code is a story about survival in a dangerous world. It's about finding yourself. Finding a home. Told from Zack's point of view (a character who you meet very briefly in Light of the Moon, and who will have a much larger role in Shadow of the Sun), The Warrior's Code is a story about discovering freedom. To me, this playlist of songs really describes the tone of The Warrior's Code. You'll see that most of these songs are a little "heavier" than the songs I normal post, and I think that's true for the story as well. The Warrior's Code has a lot more action in it than The Witch's Curse or Light of the Moon, and I wanted to showcase that sense of urgency with this playlist.

"Way Away" - Yellowcard
This song, like The Warrior's Code, is about taking control of your own life. Realizing that good things are okay to have, and that bad things don't have to be just because they always were. In a way, "Way Away" is a kind of transition song about attempting to start over.

"The Great Escape" - Boys Like Girls
Although this song is less serious than the issues dealt with in The Warrior's Code, it is about becoming a free individual. Taking hold of your own destiny. I really love that about this song, and it's something I wanted to showcase in Zack's story.

"Face Down" - The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
In The Warrior's Code, Zack must overcome a lot of hardships based in his past. I actually didn't listen to "Face Down" while writing TWC, but the song fits perfectly with the story. Underneath the surface of Zack's strong, Warrior exterior, there is a troubled, very difficult past. And I really appreciate that this song is about taking control of life instead of letting it control you.

"In The End" - Black Veil Brides
"In The End" isn't the kind of music I usually listen to, but it really fits The Warrior's Code well. There's the sense of finding yourself, staying true to who you are. And I love how this song suggests that only you can tell the story of your life. "Who will tell the story of your life?"

"Stay With Me" - You Me at Six
While listening to "Stay With Me," I actually pictured a different version of the song. Instead of it being, as is, a song from lover to lover, I pictured it as a song from self to self. In TWC, Zack struggles with a lot of internal battles. His past and his future. Who is was and who he wants to be. This song represents how Zack wants to move on, but maybe can't let go.

"This Is War" - Thirty Seconds to Mars
Really. There could not be a more perfect song for The Warrior's Code
"It's the moment of truth, and the moment to lie,
The moment to live and the moment to die,
The moment to fight, the moment to fight..."

"False Pretense" - The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
I love how this song takes ownership of things that might be too hard for a lot of us to deal with. The Warrior's Code is about dealing with the hard things in life. Difficult choices. Choices that move you forward if you let them.

THE WARRIOR'S CODE IS OUT TOMORROW!!

The Warrior's Code cover reveal!

Cover reveal time! I'm so excited to share this new cover with you all. I love it! It fits perfectly into the Legend of the Dreamer series and I love how the colors represent so many details within the story itself. The Warrior's Code is told from the POV of Zack, who you meet briefly in Light of the Moon. Zack plays a huge part in Shadow of the Sun (2013), so I wanted to give this little introduction into his life. The Warrior's Code also showcases Kate, and you get to see the actual journey these two take to become Warriors.
This novella will be out on Tuesday, May 14, 2013
I cannot wait for you all to read it!

Live by the Code.
Die by the Code.

The End of the World: The Legend of the Dreamer Series

It's the end of the world... SO READ!

Also, on Goodreads there is a giveaway for one signed copy of my first novel, LIGHT OF THE MOON! Check it out HERE.

The Witch's Curse
(a Legend of the Dreamer short story)
IS OUT!!

The Witch's Curse is an e-format prequel short story that takes place before the events in Light of the Moon. The Witch's Curse is an origin story that focuses on the character of Magda, the blood witch in Light of the Moon

Official synopsis: "Before Kate met Calum in Light of the Moon, Magda met Samuel... Magda cannot stop her heart from running rampant with the beating drum of love. Whenever her eyes find Samuel, she can feel the pull of strings so vividly alive against her heart. But for Magda, love goes against fate; her destiny as a witch forbids her to need anything but the dark binds of magic. Soon, the witch's curse begins to call to Magda. To deny her love for Samuel would be unthinkable, but to defy her destiny would be impossible. Before the curse can consume her, Magda must decide between Samuel and destiny, and her heart may beat too savagely for anyone to stop."

The Witch's Curse is the first of three "origin" short stories that will be published in e-format as part of the Legend of the Dreamer series. These short stories will focus on secondary characters and bring a deeper meaning/message to the overall series. The Witch's Curse focuses on Magda, who had an incredible role in the first full length novel, Light of the Moon. The complete Legend of the Dreamer series (with tentative release dates) is as follows:

Light of the Moon (Book 1 - full length novel) published 11/6/12
The Witch's Curse (Book 1.1 - prequel short story) published 12/18/12
The Warrior's Code (Book 1.2 - prequel short story) to be published March 2013
The Enchanter's Fire (Book 1.3 - short story) to be published May 2013
Shadow of the Sun (Book 2 - full length novel) to be published Fall 2013

**You can read the prequel short stories before or after Light of the Moon because there are no spoilers, but I would strongly strongly suggest you read the series in the order it is published (Meaning, Light of the Moon first, and then read The Witch's Curse after). By reading in publication order you'll have a better understanding of the events in each book. And if you don't have an e-reader, don't worry! There will be a surprise coming around May 2013 that will solve all your problems. Promise!

Cover/Novella News for Author Heather Self

The awesome Heather Self, author of the One, will soon be releasing A Kin Series novella called the Dark. And I had the chance to interview her! Check this out and its awesome glory:

the Dark (A Kin Series novella)
Official Synopsis: "Mary Anne Moore doesn't know what she is. She can't explain why she has lived so long. Or why she never gets sick. Or why the dreams she has come true. She has hidden herself as a lowly servant to the households of Dublin's English elite for decades, until the night that changes her life. Now her sole purpose is the child she never expected to have. She will do anything in her power to keep the black-eyed monsters from discovering him and turning him into one of them. For Kieran Moore the dark is an ever-present parasite, waiting to devour his humanity. His mother's love and the girl in his dreams has kept it at bay for years, but the more time that passes - the longer he has to wait for her - the more it grows. When tragedy strikes, it is all he can do to keep from being consumed by the darkness that infects him. He must continue to hold on to the hope of peace her presence will bring him, because it's not just his fate on the line, but that of the entire world."
**NOTE** This novella takes place both before, and concurrently with events that happen in the One. It is highly recommended it be read first.

DAVID: Your new novella, the Dark, is a companion to your debut novel, the One. What was your inspiration behind writing both?
HEATHER: Ok. I guess this is confession time. I used to be a pretty big gamer and my favorite NPCs (that's gamer speak for non-player characters) were the dragons. So that's kind of where the current dragon fascination started. As far as the Dark goes, twitter started me on that path. I was having a conversation with a couple blogger friends about who they are shipping and I was advocating for how awesome Kieran is since I knew/know his whole story, and their general response was "But we don't know him very well." This, the novella was conceived.

DAVID: Did you have any songs you listened to on repeat while writing the Dark?
HEATHER: Heehee. Well I have several different writing playlists on spotify. #amwriting has a VERY eclectic variety of songs that I'll put on to leisurely write to. If I need to bang out some major word count I have a list called... wanna guess? Yup. Wordcount. Lots of driving drumbeats in that list. There are two songs that, for me, really speak to Kieran's and Evy's relationship, especially the chorus in each. I'm Not Alright by Sanctus Real and Breathe Into Me by Red. So perfect for them.

DAVID: What things can we expect from the Portal Trilogy after the Dark and the One?
HEATHER: Well, the second book in the Portal Trilogy, the Key, will be out Spring 2013. It has to have a major face lift first, though. Stupid other characters thinking they need to be part of the story! HMPH!

DAVID: Should readers read the Dark before or after the One?
HEATHER: the Dark might be spoilerish if you like to be surprised so I'd recommend reading it after the One.

THANKS HEATHER!

AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD
ON AMAZON AND BARNES AND NOBLE
 12/18/12

THE WITCH'S CURSE is book 1.1 in the series. Although TWC is a prequel and can be read before LIGHT OF THE MOON, I strongly suggest reading the books as they are published in series order. This is best to do with any series. There are no plot spoilers in TWC for LOTM, but you'll have a much better understanding of both novels if you read them in the order they have been published.

Special thanks to INDIE COVER DESIGNS and KEARY TAYLOR for their hard work on this cover. Make sure you check both sites out and LIKE them!
