On love...

Like the best books, some of us are a little harder to read than others. But that doesn't mean we don't have the best stories. Sometimes, stories that take a while to understand, to develop, to lighten, are the ones most beautiful. Stories with words that fall a little differently than normal are ones that deserve a second thought; the words on the page are not the only words in the story. Books like that, people like that, are worth it. Because those are the books and people that will stay with you forever. If you let them. If you try. And some of us have to try harder than others. But someday, someone will understand you. Someday, someone will read the words you say and know the ones you don't. That's the best plot twist.

Dear My Future Kids,

Read everything and anything. Read pink books and blue books. Big books and small books. Unicorn books and zombie books. Love books and hate books. Read action books and history books. Wear pink and blue and green and yellow. Wear dresses and pants and hats and bows. Play with cars and dolls. Laugh when you want to, cry when you want to. Be strong and sensitive. Be proud of who you are, because I will be proud of you no matter who you are, what you like, who you love, or what you read. And when others look at you with curious eyes and questions on their lips, know they are not as lucky as you. Don't feel bad, but know you have the power to show the world just how special and lucky and amazing and free it can truly be just by being you.

Love, Me

The History of Us

I'm so excited for this book. Nyrae Dawn is one of my favorite authors and an amazing person. Congrats to her on this new book! Be sure to check it out!

Sometimes it's not about coming out, it's about settling in.

Eighteen-year-old Bradley Collins came out a year ago and hasn't looked back since. Who cares if he doesn’t know any other gay people? Bradley has friends and basketball—that’s all he needs. Even if that means always sitting on the sidelines when the guys go out looking for girls. When cute film-boy TJ tries to flirt with Bradley while his friends are doing their thing, he freaks. Yeah, he’s gay, but he’s never had the opportunity to go out with a boy before. He’s never had to worry about how his friends will react to seeing him with a guy. Bradley accompanies TJ on a road trip to film TJ’s senior project documentary. In each city they visit, they meet with people from different walks of life, and Bradley learns there’s a whole lot more to being honest about himself than just coming out. He still has to figure out who he really is and learn to be okay with what he discovers.
